Seriously Frustrated!

So, we are getting ready for our annual Fourth of July trip to Wisconsin. We leave tonight. I recently discovered the Dollar Store again after YEARS of not setting foot in there. What heaven for buying stuff for little kids! Okay, okay, possibly toxic substances from "Made in China" aside. EVERYTHING is ONLY a DOLLAR! I don't have to feel guilty spending the money and if the kids break whatever it is or lose it, oh well, it was only a DOLLAR!

Okay, so we hop in the car this morning all excited to go pick out a couple new things to keep the kids busy in the car for the long drive tonight. We approach the front door of the store and there is a large sign that reads, "No ATM/Credit cards today. Sorry for the inconvenience." So, of course I go in to ask the cashier if the sign still was true. You never know, they may have fixed it within the last five minutes or something. No dice.

So we hop back in the car. I NEVER carry cash anymore. I know, bad habit. We head on over to Wells Fargo, you know, the BANK, to get some cash. Well, there is a sign on the ATM machine that says, "Sorry no cash today." Um, YOU'RE A BANK! Back in the car again. At this point, I'm wasting DOLLARS worth of gas to drive around to find some stinkin' cash to buy the girls some toxic materials from the Dollar Store. I'm starting to contemplate just going home.

BUT, they were really disappointed to not get to go pick something out for the drive. And I was too, frankly. So we tried Walmart. Nope. The ATM was out of order there too. Seriously, really? Come on, now. I asked the service desk what the heck was going on. Turns out there was a power outage last night. I guess that's why it's virtually impossible to get some money ANYWHERE in the city of Eden Prairie today.

We decided to come home and get some cash from Bank of Andrew and return for a second attempt at the Dollar Store after naptime. UGH! And I'm sure by then, I'll be able to use my credit card too. Sorry, just had to rant for a minute today. :-) New posts have been written, I just need to attach the photos. So stay tuned! :-)

Edited to add: Yes, we did make it back in the afternoon and found some fun stuff for the car. :-)

I hear you!! We try to keep a stash of cash for earthquakes/emergencies but then I slowly take money when I'm short for the pizza guy or other delivery tips. You reminded me to see if it needs replenishment!

Have a great trip!!

I'm amazed at your patience. But, it is weird/scary how "cashless" we really have become.

Did you ever get to the Dollar Store?

What a day! You have taught me to carry a bit of cash on me now too. Hey, didn't stores use a hand machine to get the imprint of a credit card, maybe the stores could have that handy in case of an emergency.
