I used to provide more commentary on this blog than I have lately. It's mostly a "what have we done lately" type of thing now. But I read this news story today and it just blew me away. I feel the need to share.
It's about scientists creating a material that can mask 3-dimensional objects making them seem invisible! Wow! This is amazing technology to me. Basically, the material used redirects light so the eye doesn't process the object. Obviously there are military uses for this. But I just find it incredible that they even were able to come up with this in reality!
It seems the stuff of futuristic movies. But I guess some day all that stuff may be reality and this is just a step closer to it. :-) Any thoughts? Anyone...anyone?

My question is will "they" use this for good or evil? Yes, there will be military uses, but what good use could making stuff or people invisible be? I suppose it could definitely advance scientific observation of animals and people's behavior. But isn't that an invasion of privacy - at least for the people? With all the discoveries in technology in the last 10 years, it should be really amazing to be alive in 25 years - at least if we don't wipe each out due to the military being able to make stuff and people invisible, that is.
Ah, excellent point about wiping each other out. And you're right, I'm not entirely sure I can think of a positive reason to make people invisible either. I just think its incredibly interesting that they can even do this, scientifically speaking.
Um, hello! Harry Potter's dad already invented the Invisibility cloak.
Uh, because it's cool, that's why!
I think this is so amazing. Sometimes science is just cool, and about exploring our world and learning how to bend the rules. So first invisibility, next beaming-up technology so we don't have to sit on a plane for 5 hours to get to CA!
